ASPAwards – Alghero International Street Photography Awards 2019

ASPA was born in Alghero, in the heart of the Mediterranean, and it invites the rest of the world to intertwine visions and collaborations within an event that inflects photography according to its multiple aspects, being it often inconvenient and always necessary. A photography that, more than any other medium, discovers and reconstructs the world.

ASPAwards is divided in three main categories: Travel Photography, Documentary, and Street Photography. Two extra categories – Personal Project and Research and Insula/Insulae (special theme to be developed entirely on Sardinian territory) – are added to the main ones. ASPAwards is defined straight away by a great expressive potential, a heterogeneity giving access to various types of communication, different vantage points on the world. One further feature of the event is the "Blow-Up Prize". Not a category by itself, but rather a collateral path, the “Blow-Up Prize” is a special recognition indicating ASPA’s own pace and vision, its mood and poetics; it is appointed to works that, across all categories, emerge for their audacity in tackling relevant topics of daily life, journalistic feats, courageous investigations, mature expression, and a specific attention to the topic of this second edition, which this year is focused on the topic of migrations. Fleeing, curiosity, desperation, hope… whatever the underlying text, and whatever the geographic angle of the observer, today’s migration is difficult to categorise, and it is radically changing modern society. By welcoming and investigating its various ethical, philosophical, economic, and political declensions, we would like to give space to the sedimentation of thought and to the plurality of vision becoming richness.

During the award ceremony – taking place and the Civic Theatre of Alghero and on live-stream – we will present the winners of each category, while the winning works will be shown in a collective exhibit in the old town of Alghero.
