Annual Photo Contest: Seascapes & sea life in the North Pacific Ocean

Now in its 11th year, the North Pacific Research Board (NPRB) has conducted an annual photo contest for amateur and pro photographers. There are categories for Adult and Youth entries. Entries must be taken within the waters of the North Pacific Ocean including the Gulf of Alaska, Prince William Sound, Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands, Bering Strait or Chukchi/Beaufort Seas, particularly subjects that relate to NPRB’s research themes including: plankton, invertebrates, fishes, seabirds, and marine mammals; or images of people engaged in conducting research, diving, fishing, subsistence, and other activities.

Images of captive animals photographed in zoos and aquariums are prohibited. Do not submit photographs of pets or domestic animals. Entrants should obtain a personal release from all persons who appear in submissions, authorizing use of the photograph in NPRB materials without compensation or additional permission or notification, unless prohibited by law. Entrants must be able to provide copies of those releases to NPRB upon request.

Youth - 3rd $200

Eligibility:

The contest is open to photographers of all skill levels who are residents of the United States, except employees of NPRB or their families, members of the NPRB Board of Directors and their immediate families, and members of NPRB Science Panel or Advisory Panel. Non-US residents are welcome to participate in the contest, but will not be eligible for a cash prize.

Copyrights & Usage Rights:

You retain all copyrights to photographs you submit–including ownership if applicable–but by entering the contest, entrants explicitly grant to NPRB (including its affiliates and their designees) nonexclusive, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use each photograph and description (including the entrant’s name, city and state of residence) in any and all media now known or hereafter created, including but not limited to publication in brochures, blogs, websites, public displays and presentations. NPRB has final approval of any language that appears with the photos and will not use images to promote or endorse for-profit third-party products or services.
