The contest is promoted by the Fondazione culture e musei and MUSEC Lugano, in collaboration with the 29 ARTS IN PROGRESS gallery in Milan and the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti in Venice.
Unpublished Photo is a competition that aims to target and attract new, young, and emerging contemporary photographers, aged between 18 and 30. The aim is to promote and enhance new trends in photography without imposing any specific themes or limitations and to support creativity in all the senses, whilst embracing a wide range of photographic technical possibilities.
Conceived in 2018 and now in its fifth edition, the competition continues to attract a growing number of young artists from all over the world every year. The initiative was first launched by the Milanese gallery 29 ARTS IN PROGRESS, and then taken forward by MUSEC in Lugano, in 2020 with the aim of strengthening cross-border collaborations and showing continual support of young artists' work.
As in the previous editions, a competent jury composed of leading figures from the world of culture and photography will as in previous years, select four finalist photographers from the participants.
The exhibition will be an opportunity to attract collectors and photography enthusiasts and to let the public discover the new trends and expressive languages of the international contemporary scene.
At the end of the exhibition in Lugano, the works exhibited will become part of the MUSEC collections, thus enriching a photographic heritage that today counts over 40,000 works from the mid-19th century to the present day.

The UP23 competition will award the first prize winner a monetary prize of CHF 2,000
The second runner-up receives CHF 1,500
