The Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest aims to promote young photographers and attract public attention to photojournalism and its mission. The contest is being held by Rossiya Segodnya under the patronage of the Russian Federation’s Commission for UNESCO. The theme of the contest is Visualizing a Path to Global Understanding. Young photo journalists can convey this through their lens, reflecting a multidimensional understanding of the world in their entries.
The contest is open to participants aged 18 to 33. Entries will be accepted in five main categories: My Country, World Colors. Harmony of Life, Portraits: A Hero of Our Time, Breaking News and Sports. Entries may be submitted online through the site stenincontest.com until March 22, 2016. The awards ceremony and the opening of the corresponding photo exhibition is scheduled to take place on August 30, 2016, in Moscow.
In 2015, about 5,000 entries from 54 countries were submitted for the first contest. Its geographical base spanned four continents, including countries of Europe, North and South America, Africa, the Middle East, India and Southeast Asia. Russian participants were widely represented – from Moscow to St. Petersburg and from Vladivostok to Nakhodka. The awards ceremony took place in Moscow and the winning entries were presented to the public at exhibitions and festival venues inside and outside Russia.
Entries can contain a single photograph or series of no more than 12 photographs. Minor cropping, or balance (white balance) or density (brightness, contrast) correction is acceptable. Framed images, collages, photos that have been significantly photoshopped, with parts of the image edited, deleted or replaced with a different image, will not be accepted.
Prizes:
– The Grand Prize winner will receive RUB 500,000 ($6,390).
–The first place winner in each category for an individual Photo Image or a Series of Photo Images will receive RUB 50,000 ($639).
- The second place winner in each category for an individual Photo Image or a Series of Photo Images will receive RUB 35,000 ($447).
- The third place winner in each category for an individual Photo Image or a Series of Photo Images will receive RUB 25,000 ($320).
Eligibility:
Photographs must have been taken after January 1, 2015. In exceptional cases, series of photographs started in previous years are accepted. In such case, the last photograph of the series must have been taken in 2015 or 2016.
Copyrights & Usage Rights:
During the Contest, Contestants sign a license agreement with the Organizer to grant the Organizer the right to use the Photo Images (Agreement with a Contestant). Contest Participant concludes the Agreement with a Contest Organizer by accepting the Offer. Contest Participants who accepted the Offer grant the Organizer a non-exclusive license to use the Photo Images for the purposes of the Contest by the means stated in the Offer.
For the purposes of this Contest, the Contest Participants grant the Organizer the right to use the Photo Images submitted to the Contest.
