The free to enter 2016 Sony World Photography Awards is the world’s biggest photography competition, aiming to recognise and reward the best contemporary photography in the world.
The awards have brought unrivalled global reward and recognition to those involved and each year offers an incredible $25K for the Professional winner and $5K for the Open winner, plus the latest Sony digital imaging equipment and more.
The awards offer categories across all genres of photojournalism, fine art and commercial photography. The 2015 edition was the most successful to date, attracting over 173,000 entries from 171 countries.
The 2016 Sony World Photography Awards has five competitions, all free to enter:
Professional - 14 categories, judged on a series of images
Open - 10 categories, judged on a single image, open to all
Youth - 3 categories, for photographers aged 12-19
Student Focus - for those studying photography
National Award - finding the best single image taken by a local photographer in over 50 countries

Prizes:
All winning and shortlisted photographers will be included in a global press campaign, featured across the WPO website and exhibited at Somerset House, London in April 2016.
Open competition prizes:
Open Photographer of the Year - $5,000 (USD) plus flights and accommodation to awards in London
Category winners - Sony product. Publication in winners’ book. Exhibition
Shortlist - Digital exhibition. Publication in winners’ book
Professional competition prizes:
L’Iris d’Or / Professional Photographer of the Year - $25,000 (USD)
Category winners - Flights & accommodation to awards in London. Sony products. Publication in winners’ book.
