Black+White Photography magazine, in association with Fujifilm, is delighted to announce the competition to find the Black+White Photographer of the Year 2018 (BPOTY 2018) is now open. Pictures can be taken in any style, with any equipment and at any time. Image manipulation on a computer or in the darkroom is allowed, but the judges will be looking for a sophisticated and gentle approach to image editing, so it is recommended not to overdo any particular image adjustment unless it clearly adds to the interpretation of the photograph.
There are three categories in the competition: – The World of People: Submit your photographs of individuals or groups – this can be from formal portraits to street photography to photojournalism. Show us the people that make up this world through your unique vision. – The World Around Us: We all experience the world in different ways and the images we make reflect that. We want to see the best landscapes, cityscapes, seascapes and wildlife photographs in monochrome. – The Creative World: For this category we want you to let your imagination roam. Enter your best creative work, from still life to abstract, from using old processes to smartphone filters, or anything else you think fits.
The fee for entry to any category of the competition is £10 for five images. Multiple entries are acceptable, upon payment of relevant entry fees.
The competition deadline is midnight GMT on Monday 30 October 2017 and judging will take place in November 2017. Entries will be judged on style, creativity, originality, technical execution and presentation. The judges will pick the best single image for each category. The Black+White Photographer of the Year will be chosen from the three category winners.
All the winners will be announced in Black+White Photography (issue 212, February 2018), which is out on 18 January 2018.
Prizes:
FIRST PRIZE: FUJIFILM X-Pro2 PLUS THREE LENSES (Total value of £2,500).
SECOND PRIZE: FUJIFILM X100F (Total value of £1,500).
THIRD PRIZE: FUJIFILM X-T20 PLUS LENS (Total value of £1,000).
Note: If you win a category and prefer to have a different prize to the one listed above, we can substitute the products up to the same value to make sure you get the right Fujifilm Camera and lenses for you.

All images submitted must be the entrant’s own work, must not be copied, must not contain any third party materials including third party trademarks or trade names and/or content that you do not have permission to use. All images submitted must not otherwise be obscene, defamatory or in breach of any applicable UK legislation or regulations. If the Promoter has reason to believe your entry is not the entrant’s own work or otherwise breaches these terms and conditions, then the entrant’s image will not be considered. Images must not previously have won any national or international-level photography competitions. Copyright of all entries remains with the photographer at all times, but the Promoter and the sponsors of the Competition and their associated group companies reserve the right to use, publish and republish entries in connection with the Competition, without payment.
The entrant of a winning entry grants the Promoter and sponsors the right to use their name and town or city of residence for the sole purpose of identifying them as the author of the winning image(s).
The entrant must be the sole author and owner of copyright.
