Submit

FotoLimo (landlimo means border in Esperanto) is a cross-border festival of photography and visual arts whose main driving force is the concept of borders, understood in its broadest sense.
With a background of five consecutive editions, the objective of the festival continues to be to promote artistic creation, education, and research around the multiple manifestations of the border, approached from fields as diverse as migration, gender, body, social fractures or landscape, always from a creative and transformative perspective.
In this context, FotoLimo presents itself with the particularity of being the only European-wide cross-border photography and visual arts festival to be held simultaneously at both sides of the French-Catalan border.

JURY

The jury is made up of the curatorial team of the FotoLimo Festival. The winners will be selected for the quality of their artistic practice, the coherence of their work, and the adaptation of the project to the topic of this edition: "internal borders".
The organization of the festival has the right to select a smaller number of dossiers in case the projects submitted do not reach the desired quality.

TOPIC 2021: INTERNAL BORDERS

The border, a polysemic word par excellence, is the leitmotif of FotoLimo festival 2021. The way we approach it often reveals our conception of the world, its geopolitics, but also our humanity.
"I immediately had the intuition that, by fleeing from disability, we isolate ourselves. It is there, with us; it is necessary, therefore, that we welcome it as a fifth member, we must reach an agreement with it."
In Praise of Weakness - Alexandre Jollien

Alexandre Jollien tells about accepting ourselves in our own difference, but also about accepting others in their singularities. In a normative world, difference, a deviation from normality, quickly becomes an impediment, a limitation, a restriction of life in society. Faced with declarations of equal rights and opportunities, those who experience this difference quickly understand that the logic of disability is formed from the consequences of life in society, not from the causes. Borders are built, sometimes insidiously, with the foreigner, the other, the useless, the different, the deficient.
But without alterity we consume ourselves. We need others. The others need us.

The difference is usually the space of creation, the space of the sensible. "The wound is the place where the light enters" says the poet Djalâl ad-Dîn Rûmî. This border between normal and abnormal becomes the place of experience, this fluctuation of possibilities, this continuity of our humanity. A frontier to explore, another place to recognize.
