Open internationally for lens-based creatives, LACP’s open call for the annual Project Exhibition invites submissions for photographic projects that explore our relationships with the real, photography’s ability to re-define how we capture our memories and our views of the future.
What if we think about our relationships with the photographic image not through its presumed connection to the real, but through its capacity to capture an imagined view of the world? As AI generators have been recently upending the conversation around the viability of the photographic image, LACP’s annual Project Exhibition will remind that the question of manipulation has actually been at the core of photographic practice since its inception in 1839. Between reality and imagination, truth and lies, from ghost photographs to digital technologies, our field is constantly being re-defined by new developments that stabilize how we understand photography and how the world sees our field.
Prizes:
1st Place winner will receive $1,000; 2nd Place winner will receive a $500 LACP gift card; 3rd Place winner will receive $250 LACP gift card.
Honorable Mentions: Other selected artists will receive honorable mentions.
Eligibility:
The exhibition is open internationally to photographers of all levels. The juror will select images based on creativity, originality, and quality. LACP invites photographers working in all mediums and styles to take part in the exhibition. A project series is defined as a body of work with at least six images sharing a common thread/theme. We do not accept images and texts created by AI at this time. We are discussing how to incorporate works created with AI in our exhibitions and events, and in the meantime invite you to join a webinar about this issue. More info HERE. The deadline to send digital files for consideration is Tuesday, September 26, 12 midnight, 2023.

Each photographer retains all copyrights to his or her images. Photographers whose submissions are chosen for the exhibition grant the Los Angeles Center of Photography (LACP) the right to use their images for display on LACP’s website and for the purpose of promoting exhibitions, promoting LACP’s programs, and promoting the artist.
