A natural extension of the annual Underwater Tour speaker series, this prestigious new international photography competition guarantees to take us on a remarkable visual tour of our underwater world. Celebrating the best of the ocean, the Underwater Tour Awards 2020 encourage and inspire passion, exploration and discovery from behind the lens.

We welcome photographers from around the globe to take part, promoting the art of aquatic photography, raising awareness of our incredible marine and aquatic environments and sharing adventures and discoveries with our like-minded community.

Entries will be judged by our esteemed international panel of award-winning photographers and Underwater Tour speakers.

Underwater Tour Award Winners will be notified on 14 May 2020 and announced on 14 May at our first Underwater Tour event in Brisbane. Winning images will be screened to audiences at every Underwater Tour 2020 event.

Aquatic Abstract
AA:- Underwater or topside photographs of freshwater and/or ocean subjects. Abstracts do not necessarily represent reality, but rather seek to evoke an emotional response using shapes, colours, and textures.

Topside Scenes
TS:- Photographs taken above water depicting ocean or freshwater environments. Seventy percent (70%) of the image must depict water.

Underwater Black and White
UWB:- Any photograph taken underwater, must display no colour, only grey tone. Must be clearly shot underwater.

The Guru Award – Portfolio submission minimum five (5) photos
The winner will receive a Whales Underwater whale swim experience of 7 nights/5 days on the water in Tonga, Underwater Tour 2020 Personalised certificate.

Interesting Fact: The Dharawal People are the original custodians of the Southern Sydney area – their word for deep water is GURU.

Eligibility:

For photographers aged 18 or over.

Copyrights & Usage Rights:

Each entry must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party.

The entrant must either be the sole owner of the copyright in the entry(s) submitted or have secured the written permission of the copyright owner or any joint owners of the copyright to submit the entry(s) into the Competition. A copy of any such written permission must be supplied to the Owners on request.

In the event that an entrant is not the sole copyright owner of the entry(s), the entrant agrees to notify the Owners at the date of submission, providing the names

Ownership of the copyright in any entry submitted to the Competition will remain with the copyright owner(s). The photographer will be credited (eg © photographer’s name). The photographer agrees that the Owners will not be liable to the photographer in the event of inadvertent omission of the credit.

By entering the Competition, the entrant grants to the Owners a non-exclusive, irrevocable licence to reproduce, publish, exhibit and communicate to the public, by any means and in all media throughout the world. This licence is granted for use in relation to current and future Competition/s, Exhibition/s and Touring Exhibition/s, which shall include (with the right to sub-license where necessary) – but will not be limited to – any of the following uses:

a. the process of judging the Competition (including the public vote);
b. display during the awards ceremony, Exhibition, and Touring Exhibition;
c. publication in magazines, e-magazines, media websites or print media which the Owners (or their official partners, supporters, or sponsors) may endorse;
d. publication on relevant parts of the Owners’ website, including within interactive elements available for viewing or download;
e. in publicity materials (including social media).
f. awarded submissions may be used by the Owners for the purposes of promoting the Competition, Exhibition and/or Touring Exhibition from the date of notification of awarded submissions until the end of the Touring Exhibition and thereafter the Owners may keep the awarded submissions within an archive (electronic or otherwise) provided that, should the submissions be used in connection with the Competition, Exhibition and/or Touring Exhibition after the period of five (5) years following the notification of awarded submissions.
g. Prints of Underwater Tour Awards entries made for exhibiting during the Underwater Tour will be kept as a collection for possible exhibition at other venues.
